How Loose Leaf Tea & Ayurveda Can Soothe a Stressed-Out Modern Soul

By The Lichfield Tea Company 🫖

If you’ve ever felt completely out of sync—foggy-headed in spring, sluggish in summer, wired in autumn, or exhausted in winter—you’re not alone. Our bodies speak to us in whispers, but modern life is LOUD. The rush, the screens, the overstimulation…it all piles up. And that’s where Ayurveda (and a good cuppa) gently steps in to remind us: you are nature. You just need to listen again.

Tea, Tuning In & the Ancient Wisdom of Rhythm

In Ayurveda, we follow the seasons—ritucharya—because nature knows what she’s doing. Each season brings its own energy, elements, and mood. And guess what? So do we.

Right now, as the seasons shift (especially here in the UK where spring and summer tend to flirt with each other for weeks), you might be feeling that rising Pitta fire energy: more ambition, more movement, but also more stress, skin flare-ups, digestive discomfort, or sleep struggles. Sound familiar?

That’s where loose leaf tea becomes more than a ritual—it becomes a remedy. It’s how I personally slow down, recalibrate, and cool that inner fire before it turns into burnout.

🌿 What I Reach for When Life Feels Too Much

Let me introduce you to a few blends that have truly changed how I move through the seasons:

1. Japanese Cherry Sencha – Cooling & Clarifying

This blend is like a deep breath for overheated minds. Sencha helps cleanse and calm the system (hello antioxidants), while freeze-dried sour cherries offer a subtle sweetness that grounds the senses. I sip this iced in the afternoon when I’ve been running on caffeine and deadlines. It pulls me back into presence.

2. Tung Ting Oolong – The Stress Whisperer

This one’s my evening favourite when I’ve been on all day—talking, leading, guiding. Oolong supports digestion (which takes a hit when we’re stressed) and soothes frayed nerves. I pair this with some slow breathing or a candlelit stretch and I swear it resets my nervous system.

3. Chai – For Those Needing Warmth & Comfort

Late spring and summer can still bring cool mornings or emotional dips. This chai—with cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom—is a hug for your gut and your heart. I sip it slowly, barefoot on the patio, wrapped in a shawl. It reminds me to receive instead of constantly doing.

Why Loose Leaf Matters (It’s Not Just About Taste)

Loose leaf tea is alive. You can see it unfurl, smell its depth, feel the difference in your body after just one cup. It’s real, wild, potent—just like us when we’re not buried under stress and screens.

Tea doesn’t rush you. It asks you to steep, breathe, pause. And in those moments? That’s where the magic is.

🔥 A Quick Ayurvedic Tip for the Season

Right now, balance that Pitta fire by:

Drinking cooling teas (like green tea, mint, or rose)

Avoiding too much coffee or spicy food if you're feeling irritable

Waking early and moving gently instead of high-intensity workouts

Connecting with water—be it a swim, a walk by the river, or simply sipping something cooling from your favourite mug
